TurnCast also routes you based upon where the storm will be hours into your trip and accounts for rain, snow, wildfires, tornadoes, hurricanes, and other severe weather events that may impact a driving trip.
WeatherSphere released the functionality as a beta feature within its RadarCast app which ranks as the #2 paid app under the iOS weather category. In 3 weeks, the company will be releasing a dedicated TurnCast app.
With nearly 2 million paid users, a spokesperson from WeatherSphere tells Technorati that the idea came from many users who complained that while planning a trip they needed to consult both a weather and navigation app.
“Thats when we realized that we could not only show both on the same map, we could also automate the primary purpose of consulting both apps, that is to optimize their route to avoid bad weather.” says Xandra Corpuz of WeatherSphere.
