Android Market Serves Up Malware - Page 2
How can you protect your phone from malware? It's getting tougher to know who you can trust when even the official Android Market is rife with compromised applications. Some common sense and a good dose of caution go a long way.
Do a little research before you install. Check online for info on the app or developer. Read reviews from reputable sources and treat Market application descriptions with skepticism.
Pay attention to the permissions the app is requesting during install. If the application is requesting more privileges or access to information it shouldn't need, don't install it.
Get a malware/anti virus scanner for your phone. The most popular is Lookout Security & Anti-virus available for free from the Android Market. In addition to anti virus scanning, it offers backups and a phone locater.
The Android ecosystem is expanding rapidly and some growing pains are to be expected. Take responsibility for your own security and exercise common sense and caution when installing new applications. For now, users will continue to wait for Google to strike the right balance between openness and security in the Android Market.
