Android Won't Take Over The World

Instead, it's just going to settle for the whole damn universe.

Via The Register, as seen on Popular Science, Google's internet evangelist Vinton "Vint" Cerf is working with NASA to devise a better protocol for interplanetary communcation.

TCP/IP just isn't cuttin' it, so they're going with something called a DTN protocol - short for Delay-Tolerant Networking. What the heck kinda of a name is that? Quipped Cerf:

"Engineers are really good at labeling and branding things. If we had named Kentucky Fried Chicken, it would have been Hot Dead Birds."

Sweet. I have my new Rock Band group name.

DTN protocol will be used on top of the Android OS, that way conceptually people and machines will be able to communicate better between long distances.

It may also improve cellular reception on this rotating rock. But for those who are monitoring the usefulness of Android beyond mobile devices, this kind of project just shows that, at some point, Android will consume us all. At least you know your eventual captor and you've been given fair warning.
