Blog Focus On The Motorola Droid
Blog Focus is Technorati's daily roundup of the top stories as told by the bloggers of the world. Each day five posts, no matter how popular or nascent, will be selected by editors to portray a general unscientific reaction to discussion points around the 'Net.
For the longest time, all the discussion of touch-screen cellular devices was "iPhone, iPhone, iPhone." And that's all well and good for those who love the Apple culture, and everyone knew, at some point, it was going to have a competitor.
And that's what the Droid touts itself to be. You don't want to sign up with AT&T and use an Apple? Then sign up with Verizon and use a Motorola. That choice was actualized today, when the Droid hit the retail market. And on a Friday, when people are feeling happy and ready to unload some disposable income.

• MobileCrunch — The big review circulating around the Internet was by Greg Kumparak, whose ringing endorsement was: "This is the very first phone in over two years that I would consider carrying for day-to-day use instead of my iPhone." He didn't necessarily consider it better than the iPhone, but he "wouldn’t recommend the iPhone over the Droid, either – and that’s the Droid’s real win here."
• Android Central — Casey Chan zeroes in on the physical keyboard, which isn't all that attractive right away. "It's strange to think of a hardware keyboard having a learning curve, but the Droid's keyboard definitely has one. Keep hammering away and we're sure you'll be up and ready someday."
• Geek.com — Sal Cangeloso discovered a little feature that made a big difference. "One of the best features of Android is the notification bar at the top of the display. Whenever you get a text, receive an email, or a download finishes (etc.) you get an icon there."
• TheBlueDot — Cell phone blogger Chase Buckner was particularly delighted with the alarm clock feature. "When you insert the Droid into the cradle, the units combine to form a really nice looking alarm clock. If you’re like me, you use your phone as your alarm clock anyway, so this just makes it easier and more stylish."
• TechnoBuffalo — Much of the talk has been about the Droid as it compares to the iPhone. But they're on two different providers! Jon Rettinger gives a side-by-side comparison of the Droid to its Verizon shelf neighbor, the BlackBerry Storm 2:
