Nexus 3 To Have A Quad Core Processor
It is common knowledge that Google is planning to release the next Nexus phone with a brand new Operating System i.e Android Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 2.4) by the end of 2011. But, we still don't know which CPU will the phone use.
While most of us would be expecting a dual-core smartphone from Google, Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang has adumbrated a probable affiliation with Google for manufacturing the next CPU (possibly, quad-core)for Google's next smartphone.
At Nvidia's earning call on May 12th, the CEO said- "We're working very closely with Google on Ice Cream Sandwich, and it's a very important new generation of operating system based on starting from the Honeycomb base and I'm expecting it to be really terrific. And so we're working very closely with the Google team, and Tegra will be surely be wonderful for Ice Cream when it comes. We're really excited about the work that they're doing on Ice Cream. And I can't comment too much more other than that, but we're working very closely with their teams on the Ice Cream Sandwich. And as all of these products — they will come to the market when they're great, and I'm certainly expecting them to be great on this year."
This may not seem to be such a big thing for the Average Joe out there but, for the geeks, the new Tegra 3 will be heaven-on-earth. It would be the world's first mobile quad-core CPU. It will also be featuring the new 12-core Nvidia GPU with support for 3D stereo. And, it goes without saying that Tegra 3 will support a new form of High Definition called Extreme HD which has a resolution of 2560 X 1600 and will be at least 5 times faster than the previous iteration of the Tegra series by Nvidia.
So, if you're one of those people who were awed by the first generation of smartphones having a 1Ghz processor and had bought those and were then disappointed by the release of dual-core smartphones, y'all have something to look forward to!
