Samsung Galaxy S II Android 4.0 ICS Source Code Released

The Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone is Samsung's best selling Android device to date. While many are eagerly awaiting the successor to that model in the Galaxy S III, due out by Summer 2012, Galaxy S II owners are waiting for Android 4.0 updates.
We had heard back in early January about Samsung's commitment to upgrading the Galaxy S II to Ice Cream Sandwich in Spring 2012, and now that March is almost over, people are starting to get anxious. Samsung started releasing Galaxy S II Android 4.0 updates in Europe last week. This gave many users in North America a glimmer of hope, knowing that the updates would soon make their way over seas.
While the Android 4.0 update has not been released in North America, nor is there a scheduled date for the upgrade, users can take comfort in seeing that Samsung has released the source code for Android 4.0 to the world. This means we'll start seeing some creative custom ROMs for the Galaxy S II in a short while as developers start downloading the code made available today.
