Twitter Working on Official Android App
You've heard the rumors, now read them.
According to TechCrunch, Evan Williams has announced that Twitter will be releasing its very own Android app. He didn't say whether they'd be developing from the ground up or taking over an existing product, nor if they'll be partnering with a manufacturer as they did with RIM, but it's coming one way or the other.
If past moves by the company are any indication, a ground-up build is the least likely scenario. In addition to partnering with RIM to call the Blackberry app the "official Twitter app," last week they acquired Tweetie, manufacturer of the excellent iPhone Twitter app. It will be renamed "Twitter for iPhone" and will be free.
Still, it's a good move for the company to fill these gaps and provide a complete package of tools for Twitter users - even if it ends up bumming out the manufacturers of Seesmic and Twitdroid, two of the most popular Android Twitter apps currently on the market.
