3 IT Tools That Have Withstood the Test of Time - Part 3 - Page 2
Nagios, CLI, and VMware have all been hugely beneficial to my company. Just last week, Nagios helped us avert a crisis by alerting our IT guru via cell phone as soon as an important server of ours went down. With this timely warning, we were able to have our site back up and running before any of our customers had the chance to notice. We’ve also increased our efficiency by combining the use of CLI with Nagios. When it comes time to update our customers’ software, we use a script to turn off hundreds of SaaS sites and to inform Nagios not to alert us that these sites have been turned off. Without the CLI, we would have to manually turn off each site, as well as manually turn off the Nagios alert for each one. When we finish the update, we use CLI to get the sites up and running again and restart the Nagios alerts. The two tools complement each other beautifully.
It would be impossible to calculate just how much money and how many hours VMware was saved for my company. By providing numerous environments for testing, de-bugging, and developing within a single machine, this tool has proved invaluable to our operations.
These three tools provide more than just network monitoring, simplified instruction communication, and virtualized hardware; they provide efficiency, security and convenience – and that is priceless in any economy.
