In Tennessee, an 8 year old kid named Landon Crabtree helped police solve the case of their missing household items. Landon had his iPad stolen along with another iPad, jewelry and other valuable items stolen from a break-in to their home. Just a week later, landon used the "Find my iPad" app from Apple, which is part of 'iCloud', to track his iPad down using GPS.

The police were alerted to where the GPS settings were telling them Landon's iPad was, and behold, the thieves had over $350,000 worth of stolen goods from the Crabtree home, as well as many others from earlier break-ins they committed.

This is a great example of how GPS tracking apps and information on your smartphones and/or tablets is actually good for you, rather than the paranoia of companies 'watching' over you wherever you may be.

If you'd like to know more about how to set up and use "Find my iPad" with iCloud from Apple, here's a great step-by-step tutorial. It may get you your lost iPad or iPhone back one day.
