Technology seems to touch every aspect of our lives – computers are workplace fixtures, satellite radio comes standard in many cars, and cell phones are a must-have commodity for nearly everyone. So it should come as no surprise that as the years go by, our homes will become a hotbed for the latest technological innovations.

Take a peek at what your home may look like in the year 2020, and there’s a good chance you’ll be anticipating the turn of the next decade. From remotely controlling your air conditioning and dishwasher to a security system with voice and face recognition to green technologies that give the term “eco-friendly” new meaning, future smart homes are sure to change our daily lives.

Even when you’re not home, you’ll be able to control many different systems within your house. Imagine preheating your oven while you wait in traffic during your commute home from work, or turning on your sprinklers while you’re on vacation so that your prize peonies get the hydration they need.

If you enjoy spending time in your kitchen, you’ll be eager to see how nearly every appliance will be computerized and controlled with ease. Plus, bacteria-resistant countertops will put every parent at ease when it comes to keeping the kitchen sanitized and free of germs.

An evening at home will include watching a movie with 3D technology and never having to adjust the thermostat as it will automatically adjust itself for ideal comfort. Even your home’s lighting will automatically adjust to meet the needs of whatever activity is taking place!

There’s no doubt that technology makes our lives easier, but few have fathomed the incredible steps home technology is expected to take by 2020 and just how significantly it will enhance our lives. The household minutiae that occupy our minds now – such as turning off the light as we leave a room, setting the security alarm system, and even cleaning – is slated to be a thing of the past as we propel toward homes of the future.
