Android Versus Apple in Mobile Stats for November 2011

Here we are with more statistics on our mobile usage for the month of November, all collected and compiled by Millennial Media research. The data in these charts was collected from Millennial Media's network traffic, the largest independent mobile advertising and data platform with billions of ad requests served each month.
In the first image above, you can see that Android is holding strong at 50% of the total connected device and smartphone mix. This chart includes tablet devices as well; incidentally, Amazon released the Kindle Fire Android tablet helping the total Android overall mix for the month. Apple's iOS platform holds strong in second, still growing month after month as other platforms such as RIM and Windows Phone Mobile either lose or do not gain any position.
In the following data charts, we see something else very interesting. The total device mix for smartphones over feature phones has grown tremendously, sitting at 70%. Feature phones were still the most used devices until the beginning of 2011, and smartphone sales have increased at amazing rates.
Also of interest is that the top manufacturer of mobile devices is still Apple at 25.66%, followed by Samsung at 17.47% and Research In Motion at 14.5% (even after all the bad press, BlackBerry is still holding third spot).

Lastly in the following chart, we can see that the top devices for the month of November 2011 is still led by Apple's iPhone (which includes the iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G). Running a fair bit behind in second is the BlackBerry Curve at 5.8% and the Motorola Droid X in third at 5.2%. Something interesting to note here is that the iPhone device is made up mostly from the last 3 iPhone models, compared to many single models in the list. It would be interesting to know what the iPhone 4S has as its own percentage.
Another little chestnut is that although Samsung is the second most popular manufacturer for devices in November, they are listed in 9th and 10th place, possibly due to the very popular sales of the Samsung Galaxy Tab family, and the Galaxy Nexus not being released until the beginning of December 2011.
Next months' stats will likely show a bit more movement in these metrics for Samsung and Android devices as a whole.
