Whether the Tesla incident in the now famous Top Gear episode was staged or not, the truth is that Range Anxiety does exist. It looms gloomily over the heads of those EV enthusiasts who want to showcase their love for everything electric AND commute to work at the same time. After all, what's the point of going around in a brand new EV if you're likely to run out of juice before you reach your destination?

As technology is getting more and more sophisticated it is not unreasonable to presume that soon range won't be a problem. Before that happens, however, something has to be done so that EV early adopters don't start thinking they are too-early adopters.

As always, there is a simple solution. And the PlugShare iPhone / iPod Touch app by Xatori Inc. offers one at no cost at all! Go ahead and download it here.

After all, if range is the problem, then we need to charge our green machines more often. And where to find a charging station? Everywhere - or at least so it seems when you look at PlugShare.

The idea is simple. If you don't want to see your grandchildren go to school in a gas masks, share your plug with the EV enthusiast in need of a power-up. As easy as that.

You enter your plug's location to the system and leave a contact number. An energy-hungry eco motorist gives you a ring when out of juice and you contribute some of your precious electricity for the greater good. Lovely, isn't it? And it actually works. After all that's exactly the neighborly attitude that helped us usher in Wi-Fi hotspots. And imagine life without them.
