The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that Apple is still very interested in joining the 'Smart TV' group of manufacturers. Apple's idea of their new and improved Apple TV would not be the same as what we see currently on the market, rather will be a full flat screen TV set with Apple TV technology built in. Some of the features will still include the ability to sync your music, photos and videos from your home network to the TV over AirPlay. This will include full functionality when other Apple devices are connected as well like the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch, but will also provide functionality to use iCloud for storage.

The best part of all this is saved for the end. Siri, the voice command personal assistant built into every iPhone 4S, might make its way to the rumoured Apple Smart TV, providing voice control performance. Like Microsoft's Kinect hardware for the Xbox 360, Siri could usher in a whole new way to use voice interaction with modern Smart TVs. If you were old enough to remember, that remote control you now hold to control your electronics and home theater used to be connected to the TV with a cable. It was considered one of the best pieces of technology at the time (50 years ago). Siri, or any type of voice command solution, is just the beginning of a new wave of how we interact with electronics to perform tasks. Sounds pretty cool if you love technology, sounds bad if you're a little paranoid and afraid of iRobot.
