Bing: The New King of Search

After reading about the search engine result doctoring that Google seems to be taking part in these days, I finally decided that after twelve years using Google search exclusively, it was time to try out a new search engine. Clearly, the next in line behind Google search in the United States would be Microsoft's Bing. So I made the switch to Bing as my go-to search engine.

Honestly, I wasn't expecting much from Bing. I figured that I could deal with a sub-par experience because it would be in protest of Google's current practices. To my surprise, I found that not only did Bing give me great search results; the experience reminds me of Google search's "golden years" where simplicity and accuracy were paramount to all other features.

Google CEO, Larry page recently stated at a staff event that Google is looking to build "a single unified, ‘beautiful’ product across everything". But you know what Larry? Many of us don't want a unified product that blends search, social networking, email, voice, etc. We just want to find information on the Internet. And at this point in time, the best in the business at providing me with this simple, yet critical Internet component is Bing. Google is no longer the king of search.

If you don't mind Google meddling with your search results or them integrating all of your web-based activities into a search engine soup, then by all means continue to use Google search. But if you long for the good old days of Google search back in the early-to-mid 2000's, than you'll probably be pleasantly surprised when you try out Bing.
