The world of graphic design is very dynamic. Change and new opportunities are always around the corner. Creations made in desktop publishing applications are well past the boundaries of traditional print.

Today, graphic designers’ work is found in print, broadcast media, online, CD’s, DVDs, external hard drives, podcasts, mobile devices and much more. This ever-expanding world of rich media has forced graphic designers to create a better workflow to help them with greater exposure and reach.

Today’s designer workflow must be better, faster and cheaper. It has to empower them to distribute their content in manners that meet a 24/7/365 demand for content.

Here are some suggestions for graphic designers to streamline and improve their digital workflow:

Step 1 – Processor Power

Ensure that you have a machine that has the horsepower to design the elements your clients are demanding. You want a powered-up computer that will allow you to render video files quickly, while multi-tasking other elements at the same time.

As most graphic designers know, the process to which files are produced can take up significant computer resources so it’s important to take note of your processor speed. The faster the processor, the better is the obvious choice for this step.

Step 2 – Back Up and Security

Typically, graphic designers are producing high-resolution files that typically can’t be emailed easily. We’re also talking about big, megabyte heavy files that can cripple a computer’s processing speed over time.

It’s best to invest in an external hard drive, such as the USB 3.0 Western Digital My Passport 2TB hard drive. Using an external drive like the Western Digital My Passport will allow graphic designers to securely save all their hard work as well as have them available virtually anywhere because of its portability. It’s frees up a lot of space on your computer to run your design programs. An external hard drive is also an easy way to transfer files when visiting a client or on an extended contract position where you work in the client’s office and from home.
