The DIRECTV app for the iPad presents the perfect marriage of advanced technology and usability. Unlike many iPad apps, which do little more than function as interactive brochures, the DIRECTV app for the iPad actually enhances the experience of using this popular TV service. In addition to being intuitive to use, it is an absolute pleasure to behold. The app's creators managed to come up with something that is slick, sleek and utterly gorgeous. If you own an iPad and use DIRECTV, you have to download this app.

Getting Started

It's a snap to install and configure the DIRECTV app for the iPad. Like any other app, it is available in the App Store and can be downloaded and installed in a minute or two. To use the app, you're going to need a DIRECTV HD receiver or DVR with an Ethernet port. You will also need a broadband connection.

As soon as the app is installed, you can log into it using your DIRECTV credentials. If you haven't already set up an online account with DIRECTV, you can do so quickly. The process generally goes off without a hitch, and your registered devices should appear near the bottom left-hand corner. As long as your device is plugged in and you are online with the iPad, you should be able to start using it immediately.

Getting Acquainted

The learning curve is very gradual and easy with the DIRECTV iPad app. Immediately upon loading, you'll be presented with a visually stunning home screen. The screen's default configuration includes three main panels: what you're currently watching, your favorite channels and what's playing on each one and your favorite sports teams and information about each one. These panels can be customized to suit your needs. If you don't watch sports, for example, swap that panel out for the news panel or a kids and family panel.
