"...the next thing he knew, everything went black; he was being pressed very hard from all directions; he could not breathe, there were iron bands tightening around his chest; his eyeballs were being forced back into his head; his eardrums were being pushed deeper into his skull..."
Describing the process of 'apparating', from Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Trapped indoors due to flu season? Limited budget keeping you within walking distance of the apartment? If it's been awhile since you've been able to go on an adventure, perhaps its time you stepped through The Secret Door.

A unique web page developed by window and door company Safe Style UK, The Secret Door offers you the ability to be sent, Harry Potter style, to scores of randomly chosen, incredibly interesting locales.

Drawing from the thousands of locations found and shared in the Street View function of Google Maps, The Secret Door randomly chooses a spot from around the world designated as ultimately explorable. Once you open your door, your experience is utterly different than mine. And each time you open it again in the future, expect a new adventure.

How does it all work? The site uses a frame on the right-hand side to display a Street View map, replete with navigation menu to explore wherever you've appeared. This is coupled with a simple navigation tool on the left, allowing you to choose, over and over, to go back through The Secret Door to arrive at another random location.

Social sharing buttons let you share or even embed your favorite locations.

Could you find all of the visually interesting places found behind The Secret Door all on your own? Sure you could. But what would be the adventure in that? Why not step through for awhile? I promise, no iron bands on your chest, no eyeball pushes, and your eardrums will remain intact...
