Football 101 on iPhone and iPod Touch
Hit the “mute” button and enjoy the game! If you’re like this writer, you quickly tire of the talking heads and listen to something else while you’re watching the game. Do kids get confused by what’s happening on the screen? Chances are they do.
I walked into the living room one Saturday afternoon where my youngest son was watching television. (It was ESPN and he was 4 years old.) “What are you watching, son?” The answer was an enthusiastic, “Sports!” I could easily see that he was watching college football so the follow-up question was, “Who’s playing?” He looked at the huge Miami Hurricanes logo painted onto the field and said, “The L-J’s!"
So, do little kids need some help understanding the game? Yep. Not to worry, Kurt Warner, Apple and the Good Sports Gang are warmed up and ready to help. In December of 2010, the iPad version of Kurt Warner’s Football 101 for Kids was introduced. Now, it’s available from iTunes for iPod Touch and iPhone.
Animated character “Qubee” is on hand to coach the kids through the program and make it easy for them to learn the fundamentals of the game.
Who is Kurt Warner you ask? Don’t be shy to admit it if you don’t know. Sports Illustrated asked the same question in a cover story. Warner played college football for the University of Northern Illinois – not a perennial BCS bowl contender. He was ignored by the NFL draft but went on to win the Most Valuable Player award in leading the St. Louis Rams to victory in Super Bowl 34. He is generally considered the best NFL player ever that was not drafted.
A portion of proceeds from the sale of Good Sports Gang products will go to Warner’s First Things First Foundation, a non-profit public charity dedicated to promoting Christian values.
Kurt Warner’s Football 101 for Kids is available for $1.99 from iTunes and has these requirements: Compatible with iPhone and iPod touch. It requires iOS 4.0 or later. Version 1.0 size 242.
