Free Wifi Coming to London's Black Cabs
Travelling in London is often a frustrating experience. Average vehicle speeds struggle to get above 10 miles per hour, so you quite often have a lot of time to spare as you struggle from A to B.
A new startup is trying to ease that pain by rolling out a free WiFi network in all of London's famous black cabs. The move by London based startup Eyetease is hoping to roll out the service in the new year.
The company has already received approval from Transport for London for it's CabWifi service and will roll it out throughout 2013. The service will supported by advertising, with passengers having to sit through 15 seconds worth of ads for each 15 minutes of WiFi access.
It's a fine strategy as the average time spent in a taxi is 15 minutes. To persuade drivers to use the service, they'll be given a separate login for their own use so they don't incur fees when accessing apps on the move.
It will be great for tourists who can have access to free WiFi without incurring large data roaming costs.
The company have also announced that they are hoping to receive sponsorship of the service from companies, including a major credit card company and a leading mobile phone manufacturer..
