Google Brings Gaming Goodness to Maps (Video)

Most social networks have a gaming feature, which means they let you play games alone or together with your friends. Games made by someone else, like Zynga or Playfish. While social bulwarks like Facebook are stripping features to get things back to social, it would appear that new kid on the block Google Plus is heading in the other direction.
Starting sometime in Feburary, Google will be releasing a game it has created internally, using one of its own products - Google Maps. The game appears to be a rotating cube, with city maps on each face. You get a blue ball that moves as you rotate the cube, which means this is likely a game best enjoyed on something handheld, like an Android or iOS device.
As you move the ball through the map, you can score points by finding particular landmarks or addresses. If this a multi-player game, then I can see different color balls rolling all over this map as players try to rack up the most points in a particular time frame. But, who really knows until this thing rolls out next month.
This new game offering seems fairly simple; however given Google’s propensity to roll something out then refine over and over, I’m sure we’ll see some more dynamic offerings from them soon. Right?
