Hasbro Plans To Sue ASUS Over 'Transformer' Name Trademarks
It looks as though ASUS may have more difficulties coming up than just keeping the new Transformer Prime in stock for retailers. Word comes from Paid Content stating that Hasbro has every intention of laying ASUS a lawsuit over the branding using the 'Transformer' name for its products. It's rather surprising that Hasbro didn't make any mention of this earlier in 2011 when ASUS first launched the Transformer dual-core Android tablet.
Now that ASUS transformer Prime tablets are shipping again after the delay, Hasbro is claiming that they may try to get the courts to halt the sale of the Android tablet as well, which could delay the tablets again. ASUS has 21 days to respond to the claim. Hasbro stated;
Hasbro continues to aggressively protect its brands and products and the specific actions we are taking today against Asus underscores yet again Hasbro’s willingness to pursue companies who misappropriate our intellectual property for their own financial gain.Since the Transformer Toy made by Hasbro is in an entirely different market than the ASUS Transformer Prime Android tablet, it's unlikely that this suit will go anywhere. That said, I've been surprised before, but I hope ASUS comes out untouched. I had an ASUS Transformer tablet, and I also had Transformer Toys, and the movies...I do not confuse the products in anyway.
