Hope, Heroes and Startups: DailyDigital
Transforming Web 2.0
“Everyone has a daily digital routine,” Derick Thompson DailyDigital’s founder and CEO said as our interview started. Moving power to smaller digital publishers is DailyDigital’s mission. “We put control and revenue back into the hands of content creators,” Derick explained.
Derick, co-founder Eduardo Gauche, engineer Cassio Marques and UX designer Marcio Toledo help content creators sell or give content to friends and friends of friends. DailyDigital creates an iTunes-like storefront inside of Facebook or on any webpage.
The DailyDigital content delivery platform offers digital publishers a turnkey solution to engage and monetize their online audience via digital storefronts that embed on any website or Facebook page. DailyDigital allows you to quickly produce an online store to sell and deliver content to anyone, anywhere, on your terms.

“We don’t host content, avoiding content distribution headaches such as expensive servers” Derick continued. DailyDigital is a “management, presentation and monetization layer”. Content being “sold”, merchandised or given away resides in each users blogs or other platforms such as YouTube, Flickr or Scribd. “That’s brilliant,” I told Derick after hearing his “management layer” explanation.
Perspiration contributed to DailyDigital’s almost ready to launch brilliance. Derick and the uber-talented DailyDigital team refined the product over 16 months of agile development. Pivoting quickly, they’ve taken advantage of new technologies like Facebook’s Application Program Interface (API). Willingness to make products and applications better by changing, adapting and recreating is a common Hope, Heroes and Startups theme.
The difficulty creating “simple” to use applications is another common startup lesson; a lesson Derick learned working with nonprofits. “I want everyone with great content to be able to engage and monetize their audience,” Derick said. This is why DailyDigital has a freemium business model. “We get paid when you get paid,” Derick explained. Anyone can use DailyDigital to create a beautiful “storefront” for content.
