iPad 2 - An Expert Speaks (Part 2)
This is the second part of a three part interview with Giles Nugent, professor of the popular new iPhone 360 App Development Course at the world renowned SAE Institute – the leading institute for creative media education including audio engineering, animation/3-D animation, iPhone development, digital journalism and multimedia/ film training.
Q. Will anyone be able to ever catch Apple?
I would say the closest at the moment would be the Motorola Xoom. I only say this because there seemed to be a definite matching of features in the presentation:
· Front and back camera
· Dual processor
· Much improved graphics speed
· Addition of the gyroscope for better sensitivity to user movements.
It will be a bit lighter, more rounded, a bit thinner. An evolution of the aesthetics.
Prices are staying the same, so there is no feeling of price pressure by Apple.
Apple clearly sees itself as the only real player in the tablet market. They emphasized that they have sold more tables than all competitors combined. That actually seems a bit weak, since they probably surpassed that within a week or two of sales. The key is the competition in the future, and Apple is positioning itself as simply the Alpha male. They are matching the performance of competitors, and relying on their very successful distribution model to keep the competitors at bay. Overall, Apple is the king, knows they are the king, and can't see why anyone would go anywhere else. Except for book publishing, they are probably right.
Q. HD and video conferencing/calling- Is this the beginning of the end for the cellphone?
