Leslie Kean to Stephen Colbert: More UFO Investigation Needed
Investigative journalist Leslie Kean made the case for more serious investigation of the UFO phenomenon recently during an August 23 appearance on The Colbert Report to promote her just-published book, UFOs: Generals, Pilots and Government Officials Go On the Record.
Kean, who is director of The Coalition for Freedom of Information, says her sources propose that "the extraterrestrial hypothesis is actually a rational and logical explanation" for five percent of UFO sightings.
The widely-publicized 2006 Chicago O'Hare UFO sighting, which is discussed in Kean's book, was one focus of the Colbert interview.
When Colbert asked why he hadn't heard about the O'Hare sighting, Kean replied, "Maybe you weren't reading the news, because it was reported on the front page of The Chicago Tribune and on their website and it got more hits, that story, than any story they'd ever published before.
"It was a big story at the time, but the problem is, it passes. What we're calling for in this book is we want more investigation done ... We want the U.S. government to respond."
