Mocha Awarded an Oscar for Planar Tracking Technology
Guildford, UK (January 31, 2012) - Imagineer Systems will be represented by Philip McLauchlan, Allan Jaenicke, John-Paul Smith and Ross Shain as they walk the red carpet on February 9, 2013 to receive their Oscar for Mocha and its Planar Tracking technology.
Capturing the golden statuette for scientific and technical achievements is especially humbling for the foursome, as they may just be the quintessential David v. Goliath in the post-production world.
J-P Smith, CEO of Imagineer Systems (pictured below with Ross Shain on his left) says, "We first set out to develop an innovative approach to solving complex image processing challenges. Our result was a software solution that simplifies and automates some core tasks essential for visual effects and post production: motion tracking, rotoscoping and object removal."
Founded in 2000, with headquarters in Guildford, United Kingdom, Imagineer Systems, Ltd has developed a very loyal following of VFX editors and made its way into a long list of Hollywood hits, The Hobbit, Black Swan, The Amazing Spiderman, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Titanic 3D and the Harry Potter series, when effects for those films were accomplished in part utilizing mocha Pro and Mocha AE primarily developed for After Effects and Final Cut Pro Users.
This loyal following comes in part because the rotoscoping capabilities of the software enable technicians to work quickly and efficiently when segmenting frames in preparation for conversions. The object removal process (used, for example, to remove those pesky wires used in action films) is standard fare in post production suites around the world.
It may have been a few years in coming, but with this award, once again, imagination and perseverance triumphs and the good guy wins.
