New Google Social Search Feature - Page 2
But I think there is a distinction between a personalized search and a social search. To me "Personal" can mean more relevant to me, while "social" can just mean looking at the crowd Google+ knows I know. Which could be marginal since I don't hang out too much. Plus my friends are morons. (I'M KIDDING!) So the question is, does it improve my results or just feel like it does?
What about those other social networks?
Even though you may have hundreds of Facebook posts and thousands of Twitter tweets, they will not currently be incorporated in the "Search plus Your World" results. Google does not (perhaps cannot) access those social networks and use their data for "your web".
As you can imagine, Twitter and Facebook are really whining about this. Twitter says, "Twitter has emerged as a vital source of this real-time information, with more than 100 million users sending 250 million tweets every day on virtually every topic. As we've seen time and time again, news breaks first on Twitter; as a result, Twitter accounts and tweets are often the most relevant results. We're concerned that as a result of Google's changes, finding this information will be much harder for everyone."
Now to be fair, Google responds that they are not playing favorites here. Google says they would all be treated equally if they (Twitter and Facebook) just granted Google the permission to access their data. This seems unlikely with the current privacy climate.
So until data from sites like Facebook and Twitter are integrated with Google's search, it will pretty much be - "Search Your Google+ World".
Let me know your experience with this.
