Beginning to get the idea?  Whether you buy (or bought or were given) Playboy magazine for the articles (Playboy Advisor, Leonard Maltin‘s movie reviews, Party Jokes, etc.), the literature,  the sports, the art (Leroy Neiman), or the nude photos of beautiful models, now, with one purchase, you can get every edition ever printed prior to January, 2010, all on one external hard drive.  Included are more than 650 issues and more than 100,000 pages. The 3” X 5“ external hard drive weighs only nine ounces, travels easily and works with either Macs or PCs.  Is that a hard drive in your pocket?

For this product, Playboy is working with Bondi Digital Publishing, a company that, according to their website, “helps magazine publishers make money from their print archives.” Bondi’s platform enables searching and viewing of large collections of magazines and presents the original content as exact replicas with the rich formatting intact.  Bondi launched this website in March of 2009 and offers free views of 53 classic issues of Playboy Magazine — a tempting preview of this product’s release.

Recent reports have detailed Playboy’s decline as readership and stock prices have fallen.  Now it appears that founder Hugh Hefner himself is poised to buy up the outstanding shares of the company. Retro-oriented PB products are doing well and there’s talk of reviving several international locations of the Playboy Club.  Perhaps enough fans of the ageless rabbit-head will want to have the entire collection available so that hard drive sales will be a factor in helping the company rebound.

The Playboy drive requires no AC adaptor, has 200GB of free space, a mini USB to USB cable and a one-year warranty on the hard drive. It fits nicely into a Christmas stocking and sports a list price of $300.
