Reports: Comcast Experiences Major Internet Outage on East Coast
Late Sunday evening, East Coast time, Twitter was buzzing with rants about Comcast losing service due to DNS issues.
Starting around 9pm EST, users starting complaining about the lack of service and, of course, they flooded Twitter with cries of help to @ComcastCares (the main Twitter handle for the customer service team).
At that time, @ComcastWill, Tweeted: "Checking into what's going on with internet, please standby." That was followed by a couple of other tweets, including, "I apologize for the current interruption. I am trying to gather more information including an ETA."
As the investigation went on, there was a realization that the issue was bigger than the Greater Boston area, as originally suggested by some users.
@ComcastWill tweeted again, "Internet Issue not localized to Boston area, our engineers are currently working to resolve."
Fifteen minutes later, another tweet from @ComcastWill, "Issue has been narrowed down and areas impacted. Our techs are projecting a resolution soon. My apologies for the delay and interruption."
Roughly 10 minutes after that tweet, yet another one, "It appears our engineers are finalizing the correction. I appreciate everyone's patience during this unexpected outage."
Thirty or so minutes after that tweet, one more, "Still awaiting an ETA on this end."
In searching "comcastcares" on Twitter, it appears that the outage ranges from the Greater Boston area to parts of New Hampshire and as far down as Washington, D.C.
Needless to say, the outage has poured gasoline on the negativity that some consumers feel towards the company.
As of 10:15pm EST, the service wasn't working in the Greater Boston area (where I live). The alternative was to change your home DNS to Google's.
