Apple may be ruling the mobile markets with the iPad and the iPhone, recording the most profitable quarter ever by a technology company, but Samsung isn't that far away. Samsung easily has the next best smartphone to the iPhone 4S, with their Galaxy S II. Samsung has been giving Apple a run for it's marketing dollars as well, with their latest campaign for the Galaxy S II. Soon enough, we'll have the Galaxy S III smartphone upon us, which is rumored to have specs that will make any other smartphone including the iPhone 4S, blush from humility.

Based from what we can see above, Samsung is on the right path, which they confirmed with their earnings call for Q4 2011. Samsung earned a whopping $4.7 billion (5.3 trillion won) operating profit during that quarter. That sum came from a massive $42 billion (47.3 trillion won) in total sales. 40% of the total sales were from Samsung's mobile products, which sold over 300 million devices for the year 2011 as a whole. With the release of the Samsung Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note, and the Apple iPhone 5 (next generation iPhone) coming in 2012, Q1 and Q2 2012 earnings calls will likely show more of a trend for either company, rather than just a successful product launch in that same reporting quarter.
