Staying current and learning new techniques in digital media is essential. Here are some easy ways to get the latest training, some for free.

I like video podcasts tutorials. You can subscribe through iTunes, then get new ones pushed to you automatically. They can be saved for reference and you can watch them on a mobile device (if you have some time waiting for a latte).

Here are a few great training resources for visual media pros:

I like Creative Cow. This group has been offering some of the finest tutorials out there. Best of all they are free. (I have watched dozens & dozens of these over the years.) If you want to check out the podcasts, go to Creative Cow and click on the series to subscribe to the one you are interested in. Or, go to the iTunes store and type in After Effects (or Final Cut Studio, etc.) in the search field. You will see their links as well as a few others.

Each video tutorial is a quick lesson on a specific topic like adjustment lights or CS5 Rotosbrush. Creative Cow also sells masters training materials. Now, while you are in iTunes, there is also a whole section called the iTunes U. This section also offers many lessons on digital media, many given by well known colleges and universities. Of course they are served up along with 350,000 other free lectures you could watch!

Lynda.com is another excellent resource and well worth the subscription price.

If you work in Maya 3d , here is a site to check out: simply3dworld

You can also get many free tutorials on YouTube. Some of these are pretty good. I just like the push process that the podcast subscription offers rather than wade through YouTube junk. But here’s an example of a YouTube tutorial:
