SuperBowl Will Be Streamed Live Online By NFL, NBC and Verizon Mobile
For the first time in history, SuperBowl XLVI will be streamed live online through NFL and NBC, as well as to Verizon Mobile customers. Verizon subscribers will need the NFL Mobile app installed to view on their devices. The pro Bowl and Wild Card Saturday games will also be streamed through these mediums as well. This marks a major turning point in the way that television content is distributed to its viewers, recognizing that our world is growing more mobile, and thus needs more mobile solutions.
The Superbowl is taking place February 5th 2012 in Indianapolis (save the Colts jokes for later). And though you might think that Networks and distributors may frown against these types of new ways to get content to the viewer, it appears that at least the NFL and NBC are embracing this as an opportunity to keep viewers engaged in the events. Rick Cordella, Vice President of NBC Sports Digital Media (that's a mouthful), said;
We don't want to limit ourselves to people not in front of the TV...the playoffs are appointment viewing, people schedule their day around it. By adding multiple camera angles, HD-quality video, DVR controls along with social interactivity, our online streaming represents a compelling, second-screen experience that nicely complements NBC's on-air presentation.Source - NBC
