CTIA LogoWith more than 40,000 wireless industry professionals attending, CTIA Wireless 2012 will provide a compelling snapshot of fast-paced innovations in mobile commerce, mobile health and the wireless enterprise in New Orleans from May 8th through May 10th. Although a few pre-conference sessions are offered on May 7th, CTIA Exhibits will kick off with what’s likely to be a jam-packed Keynote at 9:30AM on Tuesday, May 8th – with a top-notch celebrity headlining the launch.

That’s as much as Rob Mesirow, Vice President of CTIA Operations, is willing to say as I spoke to him this week about the largest wireless conference in North America. With former President Clinton closing the event at the May 10th afternoon Keynote, imagine how the CTIA staff will try to top that at the kickoff.

Here are the highlights from my interview with Rob:

What is the focus for CTIA?

“CTIA 2012 is driven by three key things: 1) the Mobile Commerce engine, 2) Networking and 3) New Products,” Mesirow noted. CTIA has evolved to improve how retail businesses, enterprise solutions and consumers’ lives can be made more effective and more efficient with m-commerce technologies highlighted in special mobile zones.

UnpluggedNetworking events focus on how CTIA can strengthen the attendees and exhibitors’ abilities to accelerate business across the world (and have fun) with the VIP Hospitality Tent at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, the Wireless Health Pavilion Reception and CTIA Unplugged featuring Third Eye Blind and Better than Ezra on Wednesday, May 9th.

New products and innovations are launching in a variety of venues which include the:

  • Launch Pad Pavilion – ground-breaking innovations in mobile apps, ads, intelligent transportation and more;
  • E-Tech Awards Showcase – emerging innovation awards for computer, enterprise and network technology;
  • Big Idea Contest – showcasing products, applications and services that embody the transformative power of how wireless can change the way we live, work and play; and
  • Telecom Council Innovations Showcase which identifies 24 early stage companies that embody innovation, momentum, viability and strong management.
