Timing Couldn't be Worse for BlackBerry Outage as iOS 5 Updates Roll

Apple's iOS 5 has been available for a few hours now, and users are beginning to get a taste of what all the hype was about. I've spoken with a few co-workers already who have stated that they are very impressed with the new notifications center as well as the new lock screen widgets and easy camera access.

Something else is impressing them though...the iOS 5 'iMessage' app. The iMessage app is said to be the "BBM Killer" with the new features it carries. Some of its main features include the ability to send photos, videos, contacts and locations to anyone in your iMessage list. Another feature is the ability to see the other contact typing, not a new idea, but a nice one regardless. The thing about these features isn't so much that they are the only app that will do them. There are many others aside from iMessage and BBM, such as Kik. The 'kicker' here is that BlackBerry messaging services have been on the proverbial 'fritz' for the past 3 days, making many BlackBerry users extremely frustrated.

This is brewing a perfect storm for iOS, Android and Windows Phone 7 devices, as any BlackBerry user is probably looking at other devices that don't have the type of issues facing BlackBerry devices currently. They also all have a much broader selection of apps in their various App markets and online stores available. In a nutshell, RIM is making it VERY hard for their faithful BlackBerry users to be proud they have a BlackBerry, while iOS and Windows Phone device roll updates that critics and early adopters are quite happy with.

All you need to do is check out what's trending on Twitter today. Here's one for those downloading iOS 5, and one for the upset group of BlackBerry users affectionately called 'Dear BlackBerry'. It's clear that Apple stands a great chance at putting a few more nails into RIM's coffin. All you need to do is ask an iPhone user how they like the new update. Then, ask a BlackBerry user if they like what's going on with the outage. Don't be surprised to see that BlackBerry users may be grabbing a new iPhone very soon.
