Unidentified New Apple iPad Model at CES 2012: iLounge Reports

A day early at CES 2012, iLounge Editor-in-Chief Jeremy Horwitz saw what he originally thought was an Apple iPad 2, when he was later informed it was a new iPad model. Apple does not have a booth at CES, which is normal, so the exact reason that someone at CES had an unreleased iPad 3 toting around isn't exactly clear. Regardless, iLounge is a very popular site for all things Apple, and has credibility, especially coming from the E.I.C. Here's what Jeremy said about what he had seen;
Think iPhone 4 to iPhone 4S: this device so resembles the iPad 2 that differences are only obvious when they’re placed next to each other. From the back, you could walk past this new iPad on display and have no idea that anything had changed.
The main differences are subtle accoriding to Jeremy, but he notes that the camera on the backside of the unidentifiable iPad model is larger than that on the iPad 2. Also, the body of this device was about 1mm thicker than the released iPad 2. Jeremy goes on to state that there's no real way of knowing if this is a prototype iPad 3, or maybe some of the lesser spec'd iPad models we may have in 2012. He did mention however that the model he saw at CES appeared to be a few months old. That said, Apple has been known to change designs and specs very quickly on the fly, so we may see something completely different come out by Spring 2012.
