What Do Windows 8 Tablets Need to Catch On? - Page 2
Lastly Microsoft needs partners like Dell, Acer and HP on board. We expect this not to be too much of an issue, with even HP with its WebOS layer being rumoured to be making Windows 8 tablets.None of the above are unachievable, and if Microsoft executes well (which they appear to be doing so far) not only will they be able to vault the Windows ecosystem into a new arena, but also create a source of revenue for the company, taking a share via their app store of the billions of applications bought and sold on the Windows Platform, estimated to be in the range of $500 billion per year, and also massively raise the profile of their Live services, search engine and browser, all of which will be locked in to the new platform due to the need for UI optimization, much like on Windows Phone 7.
Microsoft has a tradition of coming from behind and taking over the market, with examples including Windows (MacOS), Office (Word Perfect), Internet Explorer (Netscape), Xbox (PS3) and netbooks. In the end Microsoft may come out of the tablet crucible not only alive, but also richer and stronger too.
