The Microsoft Windows Phone 7 has been sampled by most of the gadget geeks, with some positive reviews; but what will make it stand out from the rest when it comes out later this year? Its applications, of course.

Go onto any digital technology site and you are likely to find a review of the new Microsoft Windows Phone 7; many praising the clean look and the ease of use but there are whisperings that the Windows Phone 7 has been rushed out and is actually an unfinished product.

The only way that WP7 is going to boost its ratings and raise itself above the other manufacturers is if it has something the others don’t – or at least has the same features as the others do!

With Google dropping its Nexus One from the smartphone race and Nokia’s Symbian not selling well, WP7 only has to compete with Android software and the iPhone; and it needs to learn lessons from both of these.

The iPhone4 has had such a backlash with its antenna problems yet Apple still recorded high profits this summer, so what makes people come back and back? It isn’t just the brand or technology it is the applications.

Microsoft could make real headway in this arena, if it steps up – already apps that are being pushed on both Apple’s site and on WP7 Marketplace are selling ten times as much on the Marketplace. That is because it isn’t inundated with thousands of apps vying for attention; giving developers the perfect opportunity to have their amazing apps discovered quickly!

The launch of WP7 came soon after the launch of Silverlight 4; a developers dream. Since it launched in June, it has now been installed on 57% more desktops than Silverlight 3.
