Google’s Cloud Storage ‘Drive’ Coming Soon
The search giant, Google, is planning to introduce a new cloud storage service in the coming months or even weeks. Named as ‘Drive’, though free for the most of the people, extra usage may be charged from the others. This initiative of Google would be very helpful for mobile users especially Android users.
As reported by WSJ (Wall Street Journal), Google would be launching the new cloud storage service for users. With planning to compete with other cloud storage providers, such as, drop box – the biggest and probably the best online storage facility, so far, for mobile as well as desktop users – Google is willing to take advantage of its position on board and may like to be the best one, like Google+ in a shortest possible time.
With many such cloud-like services like YouTube, Docs, gmail, Google Music etc. being already provided by Google in the market, there is no need for cloud storage but, still the search engine giant is releasing the cloud storage. But, if this initiative is designed to provide one platform for all the services, being provided by Google, then new drive may be a great success.
To make Drive, the cloud storage, a success story, search engine giant would have to introduce some better features than current cloud service providers, such as:
- Free Storage better than Drop Box and others – Google would have to provide more storage for its free users, e.g. more than 2GB which is provided by drop box.
- Better price for extra storage – Google would have to provide good packages for premium users, e.g. less than $10/month for 50GB or less than $20/month for 100 gigabytes of storage, as are provided by Dropbox.
- Support for mobile and desktop devices – Google would have to arrange better apps with user friendly interface for mobile device users including all major platforms, i.e. Android, iOS, Windows Phone, BlackBerry and Nokia etc.
- Better reputation – Google, search giant, should develop such as reputation in the field to take the lions’ share from the pie.
