OnStar Says Mobile Voice Commands Are "Doable"
Mobile communication just got a new definition, it's not just mobile, it's in motion. Staying connected while in your car is as simple as the touch of a button with OnStar, and now, the possibility exists for the technology to have you simply speak and have your voice commands acknowledged by OnStar's system. The voice activation system OnStar currently provides, gives its subscribers the immediacy of emergency dispatch, safety, security, and offers the possibility of navigation in cars equipped and secured with the technology. The next generation of this technology, will hopefully allow the introduction of a broadband internet-based mobility system, such as 4G LTE provides, along with services to provide applications from within the cloud, such as music streaming, or video and telecast streaming for passenger gratification.
"The application is there and the technology is there. We need to figure out the right deployment," according to Nick Pudar, Director of New Business Development for OnStar. He says, ""It's doable and something we're exploring. When the timing is right we'll get there."
OnStar is currently available as an option on many GM cars, and is now available to any compatible vehicle through its OnStar FMV (for my vehicle)-enabled rear-view mirror, with purchased monthly service fees. The integration of the newer technologies and internet services encourages mobile connectivity in new ways... video chat and home control offer new ideas for staying connected to employees and monitoring home efficiency while on the move.
OnStar will be an exhibitor at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show held in early January. OnStar will sponsor an event with opportunities for an interactive experience with a focus on new services and products on January 8.
