4 Million iPhone 4S Sold by Apple in One Weekend!
Last October 14, 2011, Apple's iPhone 4S was officially available to all Apple Store, Apple Online Store and other sales channel. As an evidence of this is the long line that appears on almost all Apple Store around the world whenever Apple launches a new products.
Today Apple announces that they've sold more than 4 million units of new iPhone® 4S, just 3 days after its launch on October 14. Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing said in a press release “iPhone 4S is off to a great start with more than four million sold in its first weekend—the most ever for a phone and more than double the iPhone 4 launch during its first three days,”... “iPhone 4S is a hit with customers around the world, and together with iOS 5 and iCloud, is the best iPhone ever.”
This may be a surprise for those "disappointed" Analyst when Apple unveil the iPhone 4S but expecting an iPhone 5 earlier this month. I was disappointed as well but I come to accept the fact that it's not the end of the world. :)
According a report by 9to5mac the sales number of iPhone 4S even exceed those number of the original iPhone 4.
In 2010, Apple announced 1.7 million sales of iPhone 4 during the launch weekend. The company reported 600,000 pre-orders for iPhone 4 in the first 24 hours, which included orders placed with overseas carriers.
It's worth noting that the original iPhone 4 was exclusively available on AT&T while the iPhone 4S is available on 3 carriers namely AT&T, Sprint and Verizon Wireless, so iPhone 4S outselling it's predecessor is expected, specially when the preorder for the first 24 hours reached 1 millions units.
