It looks as though the earnings calls for Apple and Research In Motion are still causing waves amongst the Government and Business communities on which devices they should be using. Since the Q4 2011 earnings reports came out, Apple has seen huge stock price increases, while RIM has floundered somewhat in Apple's wake. After reports of RIM gaining Government thumbs up for security using the BlackBerry 7 operating system, it seems as though that wasn't enough for parts of the U.S. Government to still switch teams to Apple products.

The specific U.S. Government agencies making the switch are The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Loop Insight reports that NOAA's CIO stated that they will move to Apple iPhones and iPads after May 2012, where support for BlackBerry devices will cease at that time. The Apple iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S will be the smartphone of choice going forward, as well as the iPad going forward. There has been no statement as to the reason for the decision.
