Barnes & Noble Announces All New 7-inch Nook Tablet

Barnes & Noble just announced their latest offering into the e-reader/tablet world that we've been seeing a lot of lately. At their live event Monday November 7th 2011, the Nook Tablet was born to the public. Pricing is right to compete directly with the Amazon Kindle Fire, with pre-orders available now at $249.
The Nook Tablet is the now bigger brother to the Nook Color, which many Android enthusiasts enjoyed. Android is still the Operating System within the Nook Tablet, but the tablet has a number of improvements over its predecessor, the Nook Color. Some of the biggest gains are with the display, a 7-inch IPS capable of 1080p video resolution. The IPS display is the same technology used in the Amazon Kindle Fire, iPad and iPad 2 for anyone keeping score. More improvements include a "revolutionary" battery life, up to 11.5 hours. The Nook Tablet also will support Market Apps such as Netflix, Pulse, Pandora and Angry Birds. Storage has been increased as well, with 16GB internally, as well as the option to add external storage (likely by MicroSD, details will come with Press Release info).
If you're in the market for a powerful tablet in a small size, you have your choices now, with the Amazon Kindle Fire, the recently reduced BlackBerry PlayBook and the Nook Tablet. All of these devices are half the price of a 16GB Apple iPad 2, and are great for surfing online, reading, watching movies and social networking. I wonder if Apple may be thinking of releasing a smaller, more affordable iPad next year?
