Reports have started coming in from Apple iPhone 4S users about battery life problems. The Gaurdian newspaper reports that several users have been contacted by Apple engineers for more information to help investigate the problems they are reporting. The users contacted have been asked to install some software to monitor their devices and collect data to be sent back to Apple for collection and analysis.

Speculation currently is that the battery drain may be caused by the Siri program which is always on and connected to the Siri Apple servers. If you've ever used Wi-Fi on your personal devices, you know that this can cause a faster than normal battery drain, regardless of smartphone or app. Other possible reasons speculated are background processes for iCloud connection, and contact lists from Google Sync data.

Although no cause has been officially identified as of yet, it is reassuring that Apple is looking into the issue before it explodes into another 'AntennaGate' from the iPhone 4. This could be called 'BatteryGate' for the time being, but may be premature.
