College Bowl Season is High Definition TV Season

For anyone who has recently watched a college football game in HD, to think about watching the season’s big college bowl games in standard definition may classify as torture in some states. There simply is no better way to watch a football game than in crisp HD.
With the prices of HD LCD televisions coming down drastically, if you’re not equipped yet for the bowl season with that new flat screen, it’s time to consider an upgrade. During a shopping test at both big box warehouse stores - Costco and Sam’s Club - I was able to spot some sharp LCD’s for under $600. When I bought my first flat screen, a 47-inch Vizio, it was over $2100.
For those of you ready to jump in and buy a new HDTV, it’s never been a better time. As I strolled the aisles of the warehouse stores, I was amazed at not only the sheer number of models in both stores, but also the amazing quality and unbeatable price.
Let’s face it football fans, you can’t let yourself spend another holiday bowl season watching the game on a grainy, 1990s box that just isn’t cutting it anymore. HDTV was made for sports and it’s time you got off the bench and got in the HD game.
Today my eye was drawn to a beautiful LG 42’ LCD HDTV (Model: 42LK550). The highly-rated model was under $600 and is Wi-Fi ready and included the Smart TV web browsing, movie downloads and apps. The fact that it was almost $1600 less than a lesser television I bought just 24 months ago is amazing. Not only is the price amazing, but the quality about 10 times that of first generation LCD’s.
In addition the the LG model, I also found another highly-rated Sony Bravia model. The 40” Bravia KDL40BX421 (Under $550 at Sam’s) was not as sharp as its LG cousin but it was pretty close. The sharp colors and typical beautiful Sony image had me wanting to by both of these little dynamos.
With most major college match ups on ESPN, NBC, ABC and CBS now being broadcast in HD, there’s really no reason to wait. When I do tune to a game these days in SD, it reminds me how far sports television has come. You really should jump in and enjoy this glorious football time of the year the way it should be spent - in glorious HD.
