Kindle Touch Review
While most of the attention this week will be on the Kindle Fire, the fact that the Kindle Touch has started to find its way to the public is not to be overlooked. This latest in Amazon’s overwhelmingly popular line of E INK eReaders brings a few things to the table that put it in front of the competition once again, despite one or two minor disappointments. While a thorough Kindle Touch review is available, thorough Kindle Touch Review, it’s possible to summarize the high points fairly briefly.
Much like previous models, the Kindle Touch features a 6” E INK screen, weeks or months worth of battery life, more storage than most people will ever need for their eBooks, and a direct connection to one of the best selections of electronic literature currently available for sale. Unlike previous models, it has gone completely touchscreen in every way, meaning that everything from page turning to internet browsing will have a slightly different feel to it.
The biggest benefit to come from this is in the interaction with text. You can select words with a tap of the finger, highlight anything with a quick drag, and pull up dictionary definitions in an instant. No more mucking about with the directional control. The virtual keyboard will also be preferable to many people both for its break from the occasionally uncomfortable typing on the Kindle Keyboard and the fact that it means the device is smaller, lighter, and therefore easier to hold.
This Kindle is also the first to feature Amazon’s new X-Ray feature, which is said to “see to the bones of the book”. Essentially it functions by locating repeated proper nouns, isolating their occurrences throughout a book, and gathering information from Amazon’s Shelfari site. All of this is put together to provide readers with a breakdown of the majority of the important information in a given book. While it hasn’t been enabled for all(or even most) book so far, pretty much everything in the Kindle Store is likely to be enhanced in this way eventually. Many people will find it quite useful.Continued on the next page
