Kids crave the high tech (high price tag) gadgets this year. According to a recent Nielsen poll kids (ages 6-12) specifically want iPads, Computers, iPods and Nintendos.

It’s not shocking news to this tech savvy mom. Earlier in the year my 6-year-old son announced he wanted a Nintendo DS for Christmas. "Really?" I thought… "You’re only SIX?!" I explained to him that he can use the family iPod Touch to play any number of free iTunes educational apps. Plus he can use his dad’s iPod to watch videos in the car. And he can use my smart phone to play games while we wait at doctor appointments. All for free!

He agreed. He didn’t really need a DS. A few months later, he saw cousins playing with their Nintendos, syncing and interacting. I could see the sparkle in his eye. He asked again, this time with a lot more whine. "Mom, I really want a Nintendo DSi!"

Wait, what happened there? Do you even know what a DSi is? He explained nonchalantly, “Yeah, it means it has a camera.” (Duh, mom.) I asked him if he knew how much a Nintendo DSi cost? He responded as only a 6 year old can.

“Mom, Santa makes it, it doesn’t cost anything.”

At least my 6 year old doesn’t fall into the 31% of kids expecting a $600 iPad under the Christmas tree!

Since there will be a DSi under our tree, a Nintendo representative shared a few surprises and Black Friday Deals with me. Shhhh, I’ll share them with you!

“Nintendo is offering a new kind of mayhem that families can actually look forward to. Mario vs. Donkey Kong™: Mini-Land Mayhem! is now available exclusively for the Nintendo DS™ family of hand-held video game systems, placing two of the world's most beloved video game characters at the center of a frantic action-puzzle adventure with a Mini Mario twist.”
