Nintendo just reported a loss of 48.35 billion yen ($627.9 million) after a 49.56 billion yen profit a year earlier. The loss may have been due to a weak sales on it hand-held gaming device 3DS and it's now 6 year old gaming console Wii. Even though they (Nintendo) have sold more than 4 million 3DS unit in 9 months, this is still not enough to save Nintendo's behind. Besides in today's standard, 4 million in 9 months is not something you need to be proud of.

According to WallStreet Journal

"The loss comes as Nintendo is replacing aging videogame machines with new ones, while trying to cope with the technological change in the industry, specifically smartphones and tablet computers offering simple-to-play games at a fraction of the price of games available on dedicated game machines such as the 3DS."

You can blame Tablets and Smartphone all you want but Nintendo should focus more on content than hardware, since that's where their strength is. With the upcoming release of Wii U on the second half of 2012, Nintendo is hoping to reverse it's fortunate and may be we won't be reporting about Nintendo's revenue loss next time.
