Bing Launches “Editors’ Picks”
On November 13th, Bing launched “Editors’ Picks”, a new section which is a collection of selected pages from the Net.
So, what exactly is Editor's Picks?
Editors’ Picks is much like a web directory, or collection of web pages, with similar pages grouped into various categories, much like the Yahoo Directory.
Here’s how Editor’s Picks looks:
- Bing says that searching the web is the fastest way to get the information that you are looking for. And to aid this, Bing is making it easy for users to look for information by grouping and categorizing sites.
- Editorially selected sites are the ones that are quality and most relevant to the search categories.
- Whether search results are delivered by an algorithm, or by selected sites picked by editors’ picks, the searcher experience is the top most priority.
So, how do you get your site included in Editor’s Picks? It’s pretty simple. All you need to do is send an email to PicksChat@microsoft.com. Of course they will assess and analyze your website and then include it in the appropriate category.
Now, when you search for something using Bing, you will be presented with the search results from both – algorithms as well as editors’ picks.
As far as ranking is concerned, your website’s inclusion in Editors’ Picks will not have any impact on rankings with Bing; however, it will definitely increase your online presence and provide easy access to your visitors!
Bing also said that this is more about giving searchers quality results and not quantitatively increasing the numbers of picks, so if your website meets all the quality requirements, Bing’s editors shall include it in the Editors’ Picks!
Great, I would recommend that you try out this new feature! Well, it’s just working in the US currently, so you can see it on the Bing’s page immediately. For the rest of us, we shall wait for it!
