Facebook has partnered with McAfee to offer a free six-month subscription to McAfee security software, marking a serious move by the largest social networking site in the world to help secure its 350 million users against malicious attacks on their computers.

At the end of the free six-month period, McAfee will be offering a special discount to users that choose to continue their subscriptions.

There are, however, two small catches: the subscription is available only for Windows-based computers, and in order to download the software users are required to provide a credit card or Paypal ID along with their billing address, so that at the end of the six months McAfee can automatically bill them to continue their subscriptions.  Users can, of course, cancel before the initial six months is up and pay nothing.
