Google Checkout is now Google Wallet. Right –the two payment services have been integrated into a single one which can be used on Android Market, YouTube, Google+ Games, and many more places.

Google Wallet that was launched earlier, is a virtual wallet that you can use to store information about your credit cards, coupons, loyalty cards etc. Great, checkout was similar too. Google Wallet is definitely a convenient solution.

Let's check out a few features:

  • A virtual wallet that securely stores your payment information and makes payment fast – in-store as well as online.
  • There is no cost for using Google Wallet.
  • From Google’ s FAQ’s - Google Wallet supports two kinds of credit cards: most Citi® PayPass™ eligible MasterCard® credit cards and the Google Prepaid Card. In time, we intend to support all the cards you keep in your wallet today.
  • From Google’ s FAQ’s - The Google Prepaid Card allows you to use Google Wallet even if you don't have an eligible Citi MasterCard.

Well, the mobile application is currently only available if you buy a Sprint Nexus S 4G phone. For now that is, this is the beginning, I’m sure it will be available widely in the future and all androids can take advantage of this virtual wallet.

For Merchants using Google Checkout, you shall be redirected to Google Wallet. And as per Google, your payment information and order history from Google Checkout can now be managed with Google Wallet.

So, if you are a shopper, you’ll appreciate the ease in shopping. There is no need to even pull out your credit card, or enter a shipping address or anything. You just need your Google Wallet user name and password to complete the transaction. Online shopping is really that simple.

For merchants,     worry not, shoppers shopping with Google Wallet can continue to purchase online seamlessly even if you are using Google Checkout. Now, as we know, Google will be redirecting all the Checkout merchants to Wallet, so make the changes to your account soon, your order history etc. is safe, so it’s a good move you know.
