Hosted Exchange is about to get a bit of a facelift in the latter part of this year with the roll-out of Service Pack 2 for Microsoft Exchange 2010.

Microsoft has taken a lot of client feedback on board in relation to the Exchange 2010 which has been reflected in the time taken to develop service pack 2 before its official launch in the second half of 2011.

Keep reading below to discover just some of the tweaks and new features coming to hosted Exchange

• Improved address book segmentation

Hosted Exchange users will now be able to benefit from increased email address book segmentation thanks to service pack 2.

This will prove particularly useful for those working on a large number of different projects at the same time by having more targeted lists they can easily access and send mail to.

• Hybrid configuration wizard

The purpose of the hybrid configuration wizard is to make things easier for the configuration of hosted Exchange features such as moving mailboxes.

Migrating data and mailboxes doesn’t always need to be done instantly and the new wizard helps this take place gradually. Microsoft Exchange 2010 clients will be able to have some selected mailboxes internally and others hosted in Exchange Online with Microsoft Office 365.

• Fixes to bugs highlighted by clients

The reliability of hosted Exchange services is important to Microsoft as well as the many hosting providers who supply Exchange 2010 to their clients.

Service Pack 2 will include a large number of fixes to recent bugs reported by individuals and hosted Exchange suppliers. As well as incorporating recent fixes, it will also be updated with every previous fix that’s been rolled out prior to service pack 2 being released, making it more robust and reliable for new users.

• Outlook web application

Microsoft has announced a new mini Outlook Web Application (OWA) for Exchange 2010. This update will provide users relying on devices with low bandwidth or poor resolution with a text-based solution to exploring their email inbox and global address list.

This new feature will make it much easier for collaboration on a number of different devices and ensure nobody working on a certain project is kept out of the loop when they’re out and about.
